 Newport BPW to Celebrate 75th Anniversary

In 2007, Newport BPW proudly celebrates 75 years of membership in the Arkansas Business & Professional Women's Organization.  Newport BPW is planning a very special event for July 14th at the Newport Country Club to bring together members of AR/BPW Region II and our new state President Donna Hopkins.   Tentative time for the event is 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., including a luncheon, programs, presentations and door prizes!  Newport BPW President Karen Hunt is attempting to contact all locals in Region II to invite their members to this event.  If your local is interested in attending, please contact Ann Breckenridge at anndoodle@yahoo.com

Newport BPW Attends State Conference

 Newport Member Appointed to Position

Newport BPW recently attended the AR/BPW State Conference June 1-3, 2007 at the Riverfront Wyndham in North Little Rock.  Members attending were:  President Karen Hunt, Ann Breckenridge, Ruth White and Tennie Stowe.  Members attended the board meeting on Friday afternoon, followed by the Women Mean Business Gala on Friday evening.  Saturday included the general business session, with President Karen Hunt reporting on Newport BPW's activities through the year.  Reba Pillow, Region II Director, (of Paragould) accepted the award for Best Regional Conference.  This is the second year in a row that Region II has received this award!  Installation of the new state officers was held during the banquet on Saturday evening.  Ann Breckenridge was installed as the AR/BPW Corresponding Secretary for the coming year.  The event concluded Sunday with new officer training and post convention board meeting.


Mid Year Board

Mid Year Board was held November 10-12 at the Comfort Inn of Little Rock.  Ann Breckenridge, AR/BPW State Nominating Chair represented the Newport Local at the conference.

 

 
Plans Underway for Miss Jackson County Pageant
 
            The Newport Business and Professional Women’s Organization has started planning for the annual Miss Jackson County Pageant.  Billie Rice, Miss Jackson County Committee Chair and Newport BPW President Elect met with members Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the US Pizza restaurant in Newport.  Committee members attending were Nora Gibson, Newport BPW President, Karen Hunt, and Ann Breckenridge, Arkansas BPW State Nominating Chair.  A tentative date for the pageant has been set for Saturday, November 4th, 2006 starting at 7:00 p.m., at the ASU Newport auditorium.
            Applications will be delivered to area schools on Monday, October 2, 2006 and will be available to students grades 4-6 for Little Miss Jackson County, 7-9 for Junior Miss Jackson County and 10-12 for Miss Jackson County.  All applications must be turned in by October 27, 2006 to Chair Billie Rice at the First Community Bank in Newport.  More details will be coming soon concerning the pageant.
 

 
Barbara Sweatt, ANP to Speak at Newport BPW Event
 
Newport BPW will be holding a very special meeting on October 10, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Community Bank in Newport.  Barbara Sweatt, ANP, of the Harris Family Practice Clinic will be speaking on the topic of breast cancer awareness, as October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Information and brochures will be available during the meeting.  Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded.  The meeting is open to the community, and anyone interested in learning about breast cancer awareness or the Business and Professional Women's Organization is welcome to attend.  For more information you may call Ann Breckenridge (870) 217-5030 or visit the Newport BPW website at www.newportbpw.com .


Region II Recieves Awards at State Conference

State Conference was held this weekend (June 2-4, 2006) at the historic Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Region II Director Ann Breckenridge accepted the award for "Best Regional Conference", as well as the AR/BPW Foundation award for most funds raised at a conference for Foundation.  Way to go, Region II!!   Thanks so very much to all of you for your assistance and support throughout this year.  I was very pleased and honored to be able to serve as your Director, and am very proud to now be the State Nominating Chair.  My continued success is wished to Reba Pillow of Paragould, our new Region II Director for 2006-2007.  As I was voted Regional State Nominating Committee member and am now the committee Chair, Olivia Burton - the alternate committee member - will become the Regional nominating committee member.  Congratulations to all our new officers!

2006 Woman of the Year Named

The Newport BPW proudly announces their Woman of the Year for 2006!  Billie Rice, a native of Newport, returned in 1999 to serve her community and friends.  Along with her service in BPW, she is also a member of the Remmel Church of Christ, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, HOSTS Program and 2005-2006 New Vision Newport.  Rice believes in the work of the BPW organization and works hard to reach women who are not informed.  She stands for the Pay Equity and women's rights in the workplace, ensuring a fair market and equal oppportunities for the men and women.  Rice says that Newport is a wonderful place to live and work, with so many oportunities and caring people.

 


Newport BPW Members Attend Issues Management

Four members from Newport BPW recently attended Issues Management, held at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel in North Little Rock, Arkansas in March 2006.  Melody Davis (President), Ruth White, Tennie Stowe and Ann Breckenridge attended the weekend conference, enjoying various speakers on women's issues. 


Breckenridge Nominated for State Office

Ann Breckenridge, Newport BPW member and AR/BPW Region II Director has been nominated for the office of State Nominating Chair for the Arkansas Federation of Business and Professional Women.  Election of officers and installation will take place at state conference in June 2006 at the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs, Arkansas.


Newport BPW meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the First Christian Church, located on Walnut Street in Newport.
